Mission: To ignite interest among the young generation about the aviation industry and promote UMT as a hub for aviation education as a credible pathway to the civil aviation industry.

RATIONALE

The Young Aviators Society (YAS) is an initiative of the Worthy President of UMT, reflecting his long-term vision to create an enabling environment for the future leaders in the field of aviation through cocurricular and extracurricular activities that inspire and promote careers in civil aviation.

OBJECTIVES

1. To Form YAS Ambassadors

YAS will be formed through young, motivated, and volunteer students from IAS and/or from across the UMT schools, who will become the YAS ambassadors to undertake various activities to meet the requirements of its vision and mission. The organogram of YAS is shown in the figure given below.

2. To Undertake On-Campus Co-Curricular/Extra-Curricular Activities

The President of YAS, with the help of his/her team, will plan its annual co-curriculum and extra-curriculum activities under the guidance of the Mentor Faculty within two weeks of the start of the academic year. Subsequent to the approval of this plan, the YAS team will work for the execution of its approved annual activities.

3. To Undertake Off-Campus Activities

a.  Raising Awareness about Aviation as Career Opportunities

YAS will reach out to the pre-university students by introducing them to the world of aviation through outreach programs, creating a community that sparks enthusiasm and interest in the aviation industry, and guiding them in their future career options available in Pakistan, especially through UMT's aviation programs.

b. Educational Outreach and Skill Development

YAS will offer pre-university students the opportunity to register for the training on simulators available in IAS, UMT, to ignite their passion in aviation. This will empower students to pursue higher education in aviation and build a strong rapport with UMT.

 

 

YOUNG AVIATORS’ SOCIETY (YAS) ORGANOGRAM

  1.    Patron:                                                                                                                                                                                       The Office of Participant Affairs (OPA) at UMT serves as the Patron, providing financial and administrative support to      the society.

       2.  Faculty Mentor:

            Designated by Dean IAS, the role of faculty mentor is to:

  •   Make recommendations for appointments to various executive positions, as shown on the organogram of                the society, on an annual as well as on-need basis.
  •   Guide the society members in planning their activities and keep them aligned with the vision and mission of          the society.
  •   To resolve inter-society issues of a disciplinary nature.
  •   President YAS

   

      The President YAS, as the leader of the society, will ensure implementation of all approved society activities through the spirit of teamwork in a safe and secure environment. She/He will ensure that all planned activities are undertaken with no gender base appearing in awarding various job functions among his/her team members.

 

 

 

  1. Vice President (Male):                                                                                                                                                        Assists the President in the management of the society’s functions, with a focus on male student engagement and representation.
  2. Vice President (Female):                                                                                                                                                    Assists the President in managing the society’s functions, with a focus on female student engagement and representation.
  3. General Secretary:                                                                                                                                                              Responsible for the administrative and organizational aspects of the society. The General Secretary handles internal communications and meeting schedules and ensures the smooth operation of society activities.
  4. Media Secretary:                                                                                                                                                                  Responsible for the promotion and public relations of YAS. The Media Secretary manages social media, publicity, events, and branding, ensuring the society’s presence and visibility in the public eye.

This calendar ensures YAS members stay engaged throughout the year, learning about aviation, connecting with industry professionals, and developing practical skills.

 Preparations of promotional material

  2.  Preparation of short aviation films/movie clips about various careers in civil aviation

 

School/College Outreach Program (phase 1)

Members of YAS will visit preselected schools & colleges in Lahore. They will be assisted by a designated faculty member. By setting up an information desk, this daylong activity will:

  1. Distribute specifically designed informational pamphlets among the students and answer their queries.
  2. Multimedia presentations/motivational movies will be played.
  3. After a quiz show, distribute aviation-related prizes/souvenirs among the winners.

 

School/College Outreach Program (phase 2)

Faculty members from IAS, along with core members of YAS, will visit colleges in Lahore. This workshop will focus on raising awareness about the broad spectrum of aviation career paths, including aviation management, engineering, and air traffic control.

 

Launch Event

The official kick-off event for YAS, where the society's vision, mission, and activities will be introduced to students and aviation enthusiasts. The event will include speeches, networking, and activities to create awareness about the society’s goals.

 

Aviation Career Talks

Guest speakers, including industry experts and alumni, will share insights into their career journeys in aviation, explaining the skills, education, and opportunities available within the industry.

 

Aviation Career Fair

A gathering of aviation organizations, airlines, and industry professionals offering internships, jobs, and career advice to YAS members and other attendees. Students will have the chance to network, attend presentations, and explore career opportunities.

 

Flight Simulator Experience

YAS will organize a 4-week flight simulator course, including 2 weeks of ground training and 2 weeks of hands-on flying experience in FAA- and PCAA-approved Redbird motion flight simulators. Participants will learn aviation fundamentals and flight dynamics and gain practical flight training.
